Hi guys New member on the site although I have been looking for a couple of weeks.

I talked to some friends of mine from AMS a shop that builds Evos ( they built mine ) and other import cars and they were at Sema and talked to a Corp. guy from Nissan that said that the stock block on the new Skyline GT-R could hold up to 1000hp! I don't know if that is true only what was passed on to me.

I'm meeting up with the sales manager of a local large multi - Brand dealership that sells Nissian I'm putting a deposit on one tommorow. I aleady talked to him over the phone so it's pretty close to being a done deal.

Here is the funny thing this dealer does not beleive in dealer Mark ups. They sell at MSRP.and a first class dealership. The only thing he told me is they would like the car to stay in the area, that I wouldn't buy it and try to sell it for more than I paid on ebay and they could service the car. I told him as long as the car meets my expectations I will take the car and keep it.

I think this car has a lot going for it and I might get rid of the Evo after this summer ( racing season ) to make room for the GT-R. I'll keep you posted as the deal unfolds.

as a sidebar, the RB26DETT is designed to handle 600HP on stock crank, rods, and pistons.

Nothing new here, several turbo-charged Buick Grand Nationals were able to make over a 1000 HP on a factory 3.8L V-6 block back in the late 80's and early 90's. Although like the RB26DETT I believe these blocks were cast Iron.

The problem is it will be much more expensive with the newer engines like the VQ. It will also be much harder to get longevity out of an aluminum block at the 1000HP level.

Thanks glad to be on here!

Like I said that info was only passed on to me and seemed very intresting.

I talked to the dealer and I told him to draw up a contract that if the car did not meet up to the rumors and my expectations that I would pass on it and get a refund. He said OK. Nice people to deal with. Pretty easy going.

I also told him I don't think he would have any problem getting rid of it.

Ah Grand Nationals, they could be real sleepers and real fast.

Is the new GT-R getting a Aluminum block?

True, but my money would be on aluminum or some kind of aluminum/magnesium alloy.

Heh, heh, heh... could you imagine the flak Nissan would get for an iron block in the new GTR. Ask Ford about their 4000 lb Shelby!

i think this car is going to have superlight build materials by necessity. the car is going to need to shave as much dead weight as possible. the GTR has never been the lightest of the bunch.

i have stated on other threads that the moncoque will be bonded aluminum sections a la Exige, with lots of use of magnesium and titanium subframe/suspension parts. the engine is a who-knows kind of thing, but i tend to agree w/you. they're going to have to employ as much race-bred technology on this machine as possible to be competitive. advanced AWD is not enough anymore; everyone does that today.
