Worth the Wait?

Who here has been dreaming of a production version of the GTR for the US. True they used to be called skylines, but we didn't get a version in the US because of the Right hand drive setup that's used in Japan...

Who can remember being far younger and dreaming of the car coming?

Sure we have know about it for a while now, but I'm just curious for stories or reminiscing.

I know some have imported older ones and converted them to LHD or just use them as track cars, but that's not the same.

I remember seeing an R33 in the parking lot of the hospital where my brother had just been rushed with a broken leg.

Yes, I stopped.

I have lived in Japan off and on for almost 9 years now so I have many stories.

My first memory was when I first saw an R34 V-spec II in limited edition midnight purple. A guy I knew bought the car. His entire pay check went into it every month (payment + mods). It was bone stock at first when I got a ride but still scary fast from the passenger seat. I was overwhelmed with a desire to own one but seeing him dump all of his cash into it, swayed me to wait.

The second one was a different friend and he bought a "Top Secret" tuned white R33 with a claimed 700+ awhp to the wheels. He took me for a spin and nearly killed us both. He had just bought it and after a 0 to 60 pull we almost ran into a guard rail. The windshield wipers/ emergency blinkers and everything else were on. He didn't know how to drive it yet. BTW, I walked back to work even though he promised no more insane driving. It was so fast that my insides were pressed firmly against my spine. I thought for sure that he would wreck but to this day he still owns it, although it is for sell as he is heading back to the states.

I have a lot more but those are the most memorable to me.

I guess you can consider me part of the playstation generation.... I'm 28 now but gran turismo came out in 96-97... Right when I 1st started driving and that game really got me into skylines and evo's and supras and rx-7's

I've owned a supra(94) and an evo (03) and now its time for the GTR

That wasn't the reason. RHD is legal in the USDM
