GT-R rocks the 'Ring: Nissan supercar in fast company

Source: MotorTrend

----------------------------------

By Todd Lassa

Faster than a 911 Turbo, possibly cheaper than a Z06. And now, according to our sources at the scene, Nissan has recorded a stunning seven-minute/35-second lap around the Nurburgring's Nordschleife with a stock 480-horsepower GT-R.

Among production road cars, that's quicker than a Porsche 996 GT2 and Corvette Z06 (both 7:42). It's not as quick as a Koenigsegg CCR, Pagani Zonda F, Porsche 997 GT2, or Porsche Carrera GT, the top four quickest cars around the Green Hell. But, as we went to press, Nissan was working on possibly tackling the record again.

Road cars the Nissan GT-R must beat:

1. Porsche Carrera GT: 7 minutes/28 seconds
2. Porsche 997 GT2: 7 minutes/32 seconds
3. Pagani Zonda F: 7 minutes/33 seconds
4. Koenigsegg CCR: 7 minutes/34 seconds

What the Nissan GT-R has beat:

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren: 7 minutes/40 seconds
Porsche 997 Turbo: 7 minutes/40 seconds
Chevrolet Corvette Z06: 7 minutes/42 seconds
Porsche 996 GT2: 7 minutes/42 seconds

Back to you, Chevrolet. Show us what you can do with the new Corvette ZR1.

I still can't believe the GTR beat out the (996)GT2 by 7 seconds. That's pretty crazy! Not to mention how close it is with the Carrera GT.

Thats sweet. I want it filmed and witnessed independently for all the naysayers. No one will believe it fully until then.

The ring

Thats impressive, I thought the Z06 bested the 997 tt by 2 seconds at the ring? Are these Nissans tests exclusively? This is all pertinent to me as im on the verge of buying either a 2003 Porsce gt2, a 2008 997 Turbo, considering the z06 for sheer value ( though im struggling with the vette driver stigma- sorry guys) Also drove and was impressed by amg e63 Benz as well as the M5 ( different cars but pretty bad none the less) Now im wondering about the GTR as well as the Rossion ( the American version of the recently purchased Noble rights) The Rossion will crush everything but wont be available till mid next year and is questionable as a daily. One thing about the GTR and ill probably get killed here for saying it- it doesnt have near the sex appeal of the Porsche. For putting so much into this , I would think design and final image might have been a bit more scrutinized. Sorry guys but thats my honest and impartial view. It doesnt look and feel like a supercar to me. Awesome that it will drive like one though and that should be the final test - Ok flog me now if you must- Buck

one more thought....

I think gunning for the gt2 and Gt is a bit unrealistic, especially if the car stickers at 70-80k ( those are 200k and 400k cars) and is as comfortable, large in scale ( true 4 seater) and appointed as it seems to be- Buck
