new member looking for info on getting a GT-R

Hey everyone. Just regestered with the site. I have a couple questions on importing a R-34 GTR. I currently have a 1998 Toyota supraTT and im looking to get a GTR.I have a friend that owns a used car dealership in japan and is willing to export a car to me. Now i have read up on most of the regs for EPA and DOT. This is my question. The car my friend has is a 99 GTR. I want this car but i dont want it for the street just for the track. NOW. Is there a way to import that car as a race car? I have seen newer GTRs at car shows thats why i ask. Also I want to know if i ship the car over with no motor as a rolling chassis if it will pass customs and if not why? Then plan to have the motor shipperd over later on. Also will that be able to pass customs and if not why? Again I do not want to put it on the road... I also know someone that got a 98 GTR shipped to canada the same way and dropped the motor in later. He then bought a 95 240sx and registered 240 and put the plates on the skyline. I know its illegal. but i also know he has been pulled over and nothing happened. I think alot of police cant tell the difference or in fact dont even know what a nissan skyline is.. Thanks
for the help

Jeremy

sounds like trouble, i think you can import one for race/show without too much of a problem, but switching plates and all that... everyone knows that's illegal and not a good idea

From all that I have read about doing this (this was before I knew the R35 was coming stateside) the best way to do this is just wait and see if you can ****** one off ebay or the like. I understand that this is actually cheaper and easier to do than to try to import one. Every once in a while there is one.
